ARTLIA's art prints are produced according to standardized paper and canvas formats.

Depending on the aspect ratio of the original artwork and the chosen format, it may happen that the edges of the image are slightly adjusted to achieve a harmonious overall effect and high print quality.

For canvas prints, the ARTLIA team ensures that the main motif is placed as fully as possible on the front side. The side frame areas are continued in color and style to match the original image.

This is a deliberate and common production step with which the ARTLIA team ensures the aesthetic quality of each artwork.

Postcard – Rocks in the Sea from Changdeokgung Palace

This postcard, “Rocks in the Sea from Changdeokgung Palace,” depicts a monumental mural by Korean painter Kim Gyu-jin (1868–1933), which once adorned the eastern wall of Huijeongdang Hall at Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul.

The painting depicts Chongseokjeong, a famous coastal landscape in Tongcheon and one of the traditional “Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong.” Particularly impressive is the unusual perspective: instead of looking out to sea from the land, as in many traditional depictions, the viewer appears to be on the water, looking toward Chongseok’s distinctive column-like rocks. The bizarre rock formations stretch across the entire composition like a monumental natural curtain.

In this work, Kim Gyu-jin combined traditional Korean painting traditions with the new influences of modernity. The realistic depiction of the landscape represents realistic landscape painting (실경산수화, Silgyeong Sansuhwa). It is also noteworthy that the composition closely follows a photograph from 1913. However, to create the mural, the artist also studied the landscape directly on site and made his own sketches—including from the open sea.

The postcard thus preserves not only an impressive motif from Korean landscape art, but also tells the story of the encounter between traditional court art, photography, and modern painting in Korea in the early 20th century.

Printed on high-quality, sturdy matte paper, the postcard offers an elegant tactile feel and makes a wonderful small gift, decorative keepsake, or medium for a personal message to a friend.
