Object Description & Interpretation
This work printed on a cup, "Blumenfelder," shows a flower meadow. The horizon line clearly divides the image into two halves. The lower half of the image shows a field or meadow where flowers grow in the most colorful hues, with the color red clearly dominating. Here and there, some blue, yellow, and orange flowers can be seen. At the bottom edge, a field path is suggested in the center, inviting us to let our gaze wander through the sea of flowers. It is not hard to imagine the gentle breeze in which the flowers and grass sway. In the middle of the image, we see a clear horizon with a crooked tree standing, which seems to have been defying the winds for countless generations. We cannot see the end of the meadow, and so the image creates a feeling of endlessness. The deep blue sky draws most of the attention to the curved brushstrokes. The latter illustrate the dynamics of the sky and show the power of the wind blowing over the field. Some white parts of the image suggest clouds, and at the very top, we see a hint of yellow. Surely the sun is shining on some clouds here. Overall, the deep blue of the sky creates a cool atmosphere. The red of the flowers also has a blue component and contributes to the mood.
